Family friendly policies at FLI

The compatibility of family and professional life is a central part of equality oriented, family friendly and thus progressive research. As a member of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community (WGL), equal opportunities are part of the self-conception of the Leibniz Institute for Age Research – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena.

In 2007, FLI committed to its providers of funding to implement the Ausführungsvereinbarung zum GWK Abkommen über die Gleichstellung von Frauen und Männern bei der gemeinsamen Forschungsförderung – Ausführungsvereinbarung Gleichstellung (AV-Glei – Agreement to implement the GWK agreement concerning equal opportunities for women and men in the joint funding of research). The institute gives its Board of Trustees an annual account on the development in the period under report.

As an important building block towards the implementation of equality oriented research standards, FLI applied successfully for the Total-E-Quality Award in 2013. The main focus was on the compatibility of family and work.

The TOTAL E-QUALITY Award stands for Total Quality Management (TQM), complemented by the Gender Component (Equality).

Since 1996, the association Total E-Quality Deutschland e.V. has been pursuing the goal to establish equality in different areas and enshrine it permanently. This goal is achieved when talents, potentials and skills of both genders are equally recognized, integrated and supported.

This award goes to organisations from commerce, science or politics and administrative organisations, which incorporate equality into their personnel and organisational policies. The awarding is based on self-assessment which will be evaluated by an independent jury with competent representatives from the science sector.

Apart from the compatibility of family and work, the main focus is on equal opportunities in recruiting and human resources development, promoting fair play at work and the consideration of equality in the institute's principles.
